Paris Public LibraryAdvisory Board <br />02/21/2024 <br />Meeting Minutes <br />Call to Order: <br />The regular meeting of the Paris Public LibraryAdvisory Board was called to <br />order by Chairman Steve Hellmann at 5:00 p.m. <br />Board members present were Steve Hellmann, Jennifer Cullum, Amy Watson, <br />Kelvin Hicks, Myers Hurt, Melanie Loughmiller, and DeEtte Cobb. Also present <br />were Library Director Connie Lawman, Deputy City Manager Rob Vine, and <br />representatives from of the Friends of the Paris Public LibraryAudrey Mathieu <br />and Jeanie Walters. <br />II. Citizens Forum: <br />Abigail Frank of Paris did not address the board with concerns but sat in on the <br />meeting as an interested citizen. <br />III. Approval: <br />The minutes of the January 10th, 2024, meetingwas approved with the correction <br />be made under Section VI(e): In the sentence "Jennifer Hollje also mentioned <br />thathewould be availableto speakto homeschoolchildren during visitto the <br />library.", the word "he" was replaced to "the astronaut." Myers made the motion <br />for approval and Kelvin provided the 2nd <br />IV. New Business: <br />a. Staff Intro: Mauricio Ibarra was introduced to the advisory board. Mauricio <br />began working for the library in January 2024 and was previously library <br />volunteer. Rob asked Mauricio why he chose to work with the library. <br />Mauricio responded, saying that he loves books and anything to do with <br />books. He has an associate in arts, is bilingual, and wanted to do something <br />that allows him to help his community. He is alrea dy assisting non-native <br />speakers with a variety of forms a nd opportunities that may otherwise be <br />missed without the help of a bilingual staff memberfrom the library. <br />Audrey asked Mauricio's opinion as a 25 -year-old, if there was anything he <br />wished he could see more of in the library, to which he responded sayingthat <br />he would more horror. Myers asked him if he's a writer and Mauricio said yes <br />when he was taking classes at Paris Junior College. He enjoys writing movie <br />reviews forthe horror genre. Steve asked if the amount of Spanish language <br />titles available at the library are sufficient. Mauricio said that while the <br />collection is notvery big, there aren't many patrons who come to the library <br />for it, so it's comparative. Connie asked Mauricio if the collection should be <br />
