Board member stepping down:
Sandi contacted Connie, stating that due to her recent shoulder surgery, she will be
stepping down from the position. This leaves one open seat on the board. Connie stated
that there is a lot of interest but will have to wait for City Council to move further on the
m atter.
b. Recent break-in of the library:
Connie informed the board that during the last week of July, a person broke into the library
and was arrested shortly afterward at the Farmer's Market. The library indoor cameras
showed the person had come in during the day and left a window open, to which they
crawled through after closing time. They damaged the library register, stole $24.60, flash
drives, and ear buds that are sold to the patrons. While this person was in jail, another
unsuccessful attempt was made to break into the library. Connie told the board thatthe
Paris Police Department has been great with increasing their patrol visits. The Chief of
Police noted that the hardware forthe historical windows is original, so it would be advised
to use metal zip ties to secure the windows closed. Connie informed the board that this
would not be a fire hazard. Connie stated that it can be unnerving to be at the library alone
at night and hopes thatwith the new fiscalyear, the library can have more lighting installed
outdoors.
c.
