Why This Matters <br />Safety encompasses more than emergency response. Stakeholders emphasized the need for safe routes to <br />schools, better lighting in neighborhoods, and youth spaces. While the City benefits from highly respected <br />first -responder teams, equipment and staffing must keep pace with growth, and physical infrastructure like <br />sidewalks and lighting directly impacts public safety. <br />Promote a Safe Community for All Citizens affirms the City of Paris's commitment to protecting the <br />well-being of residents, visitors, and businesses through proactive public safety, prevention, and <br />preparedness. This Outcome recognizes that safety extends beyond emergency response—it includes the <br />design of streets and neighborhoods, the quality of public infrastructure, and the coordination that allows <br />every department to contribute to a secure environment. <br />In the City Council's first strategic workshop, safety was repeatedly identified as a defining expectation of <br />city government and a central measure of public trust. Council members and staff emphasized that while <br />Paris benefits from highly respected first -responder teams and strong departmental collaboration, the City <br />must plan deliberately for future needs in equipment, staffing, and community risk reduction. The <br />Department Director workshops built on that foundation, identifying opportunities to strengthen readiness, <br />expand interagency partnerships, and address environmental and infrastructure conditions that affect daily <br />safety. <br />Key Activities under this Outcome focus on maintaining high -performing police, fire, and EMS services; <br />modernizing apparatus and facilities; improving lighting, sidewalks, and Safe Routes to School; and <br />reducing hazards through targeted demolition and neighborhood stabilization. Together, these initiatives <br />reflect a holistic approach to public safety—linking emergency services, planning, engineering, and <br />community engagement to ensure that every person in Paris can feel, and be, safe at home, at work, and <br />throughout the community <br />
