<br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />Annual Report to the Paris City Council <br />January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2006 <br /> <br />L Summary of Major Activities <br /> <br />The following is a brief summary of the major activities that have occurred during the <br />reporting period: <br /> <br />1. A warding the Annual Preservationist A ward to the Lamar County Historical Society <br />for their work in establishing the Lamar County Historical Society Museum <br />2. Participation in the Visionaries in Preservation Program (established by the Texas <br />Historical Commission (THC) to empower communities to shape their future historic <br />preservation efforts and community-wide growth through visioning and planning and <br />to provide training and assistance tailored to achieve those goals) define priorities in <br />our community for sustained growth and development <br />A. Application for and receipt of a Visionaries Grant to supplement the Design <br />Guidelines for the Downtown Historic District <br />B. Receipt of a Lennox Foundation Grant to provide the City's match in the <br />Visionaries Grant <br />C. Contracting with Main Street Architects to revise the Design Standards for <br />the commercial and residential historic districts <br />3. Approval of several major Certificates of Appropriateness: <br />A. Construction of a new building for the Salvation Army in the Downtown <br />Historic District <br />B. Renovation of the old Gulf Station for a new Downtown restaurant <br />C. Rehabilitation and renovation of the historic Pin Oaks Apartments on S. Main <br />Street <br />D. Major renovations to the building at the comer ofS. Main and Kaufman (on- <br />going) <br />E. Rehabilitation and renovation of the building at 124 N. Main Street (across <br />from the Lamar County Courthouse) for new Downtown living and a music <br />hall <br />F. Renovation of the building at 115 S. Main Street (old Norment & Castleberry <br />Insurance Building) for a new Downtown merchant <br />G. Renovation of the structure at 36 & 40 E. Kaufman (McDonald Building) for <br />new Downtown living (on-going) <br />H. Rehabilitation of the building at III Lamar Avenue (old Swaim Printing <br />Building) for new Downtown living and a new Downtown merchant (on- <br />going) <br />1. Rehabilitation of the building at 3 S. Plaza (Solomon Building) for new <br />Downtown loft living and a new Downtown merchant (on-going) <br />1. Rehabilitation of the building at 504 Lamar A venue (Miramar Apartments) <br />for new Downtown living and a new Downtown merchant (on-going) <br />
