Wright, Director of Community Development <br /> <br />DESCRIPTION: <br /> <br />Public hearing and consideration of and action on a resolution authorizing the application <br />for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program (formerly <br />known as the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant), and authorizing an Interlocal <br />Agreement with Lamar County. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND INFORMATION: <br /> <br />The City of Paris and Lamar County have been notified of the availability of <br />$35,064.00 in funding under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) <br />Program. Having been certified as disparate jurisdictions, each entity is eligible for not <br />more than one-half of the funds available; therefore, the City is requesting $17,532.00, <br />with $12,468.00 in matching funds required to be provided by the City of Paris in fiscal <br />year 2008-2009, for lease of the CodeRED@ Emergency Notification System for the next <br />two (2) years. <br />The CodeRED@ Emergency Notification System can be used to notify residents <br />in the event of emergencies such as storms, chemical spills, jail breaks, and Amber <br />Alerts, and it has multi-lingual capabilities and can place calls to the city as a whole or <br />be pinpointed to any neighborhood or area city officials deem necessary at a rate of up <br />to 60,000 calls per hour. The Texas Municipal League (TML) has a negotiated price of <br />$15,000.00 per year for cities of our size, and this lease will include 50,000 minutes of <br />service time annually. <br /> <br />FISCAL AUTHORITY: <br /> <br />BUDGETED: Will be budgeted in Account #: <br />GRANT: FY 2008-2009 Account #: <br />BOND I C 0 Account #: <br />Other: See attached for recommended funding <br /> <br />LEGAL REVIEW: <br /> <br />MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATION: <br />
