Joint City-County Proclamation
"Hire a Veteran Month"
Official Proclamation

Whenever called upon to defend our nation's security at home or abroad
the men and women who serve in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine
Corps and Coast Guard have responded immediately and effectively,
placing national interests above their own; and

The peace and accomplishments our nation today enjoys are due to the
efforts and sacrifices our military men and women and their families have
endured; and

Of the more than 48 million of these soldiers who have served the United
States of America, more than a million have made the ultimate sacrifice by
giving their lives, and another 1.5 million have been wounded; and

Today our men and women in uniform daily put their lives at risk, seeking
to secure the blessings of freedom and liberty for oppressed people
around the globe; and

In 1944 when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the G.!. Bill into law,
he observed that more than anything else America's servicemen and
women wanted "the assurance of satisfactory employment" upon their
return to civilian life; and

Today's veterans desire the same economic opportunities as their
forebears; and have educational and leadership skills, maturity and a
dedication to service fostered by their military experience and want to
share these talents with Paris and Lamar County employers; and

Hundreds of Paris and Lamar County residents have military experience
and many of them are seeking employment within the City of Paris and
Lamar County; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Paris and the
Commissioner's Court of Lamar County, that the month of November, 2007 is hereby proclaimed to
be

"HIRE A VETERAN MONTH"

And encourage all Paris and Lamar County businesses to provide employment opportunities to
those who have served in the Armed Forces.

Jesse James Freelen, Mayor
City of Paris, Texas

.".__..._.,....w_.__...._........,..,.,._... ~'_~'_~........_

,.'
