<br />EXTERIOR CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS <br /> <br />Au new non-residential and multi-family buildings constructed in the City of Greenville must <br />comply with the City's ordinance on Exterior Construction Requirements and Standards. <br /> <br />ACCEPTABLE MASONRY MATERIAL <br />Acceptable Masonry Wall Construction is defined as and shall include the following: <br /> <br />· Stone Material: Masonry construction using stone material may consist of granite, marble, <br />limestone, slate, river rock, and other hard and durable naturally occurring all weather stone. Cut <br />stone and dimensioned stone techniques are acceptable. <br /> <br />· Brick Material: Brick material used for masonry construction shall be hard fired (kiln fired) <br />clay or slate material. Unfired or under fired clay, sand, or shale brick are not permitted. <br /> <br />· Concrete Masonry Units: Concrete masonry units used for exterior masonry construction shall <br />have an indented, hammered, split face, or other similar architectural finish. Lightweight <br />concrete block or cinder block construction is not acceptable masonry wall construction. <br /> <br />· Concrete Panel Construction: Concrete finish or pre-cast panel (tilt wall) construction shall be <br />painted, fluted, exposed aggregate, or other similar architectural concrete finish. Smooth or <br />untextured concrete finishes are not acceptable. <br /> <br />· Stucco or similar exterior finishing system. <br /> <br />· Exterior Insulating Finishing System (EFIS) or similar exterior finishing system. <br /> <br />· Glass Wall Construction: Glass walls shall include glass curtain walls or glass block <br />construction. Glass curtain wall shall be defined as an exterior wall which carries no structural <br />loads, and which may consist of the combination of metal, glass, or other surfacing material <br />supported in a metal framework. <br /> <br />CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS <br />The standards and criteria contained within this section are deemed to be minimum standards and <br />shall apply to all new, altered or repaired construction occurring within the City. <br /> <br />· Non-residential Structures (Excluding Churches) <br />Major Thoroughfares and Collector Streets. Non-residential structures constructed on lots that <br />have frontage on U.S. Highway 69 (Joe Ramsey Blvd.), Business U.S. Highway 69 from U.S" <br />Highway 69 to Interstate 30, State Highway 34 (Wesley Street) from the South City Limits to <br />Pickett Street, Interstate Highway 30, FM 1570; shall have at least seventy-five percent (75%) of <br />the total exterior walls above grade level, excluding doors and windows, constructed of <br />acceptable masonry wall construction, in accordance with the City's building code and fire <br />prevention code.
