Regular City Council Meeting <br />April 14, 2008 <br />Page 2 <br />Bruce Staples, Oak Creek Addition -asked that the speed limit be reduced at the intersection <br />of 195 and Oak Creek, because there had been thirteen accidents in the last five years. <br />Doyle Whitaker, 3000 Margaret - he said he signed the initiative petition as did his son, <br />without reading it and it was a mistake. He also said the petition was not explained to him. Mr. <br />Whitaker said he and his son wanted to remove their names from the petition. He presented Council <br />with affidavits executed by he and his son, Chris Whitaker. <br />Introductions, announcements, and recognitions. <br />a. Proclamation declaring "PJC Dragons Basketball Day." <br />Mayor Freelen presented a proclamation to Coach Ross Hodge declaring PJC Dragons <br />Basketball Day and recognizing the outstanding achievements of the basketball team. Mayor Freelen <br />announced the PJC men's basketball team continued its team and individual successes with a record <br />number of victories, Region XIV title, and an 8`h place finish in the NJCAA national tournament. <br />Consent Agenda <br />Mayor Freelen inquired if there were any items that Council Members wanted to pull from <br />the Consent Agenda for discussion. Council Member Brown asked for corrections to item 6. He <br />referenced page one and said Erin Jenkins should be changed to Aaron Jenkins. He also referenced <br />page six and stated that Mr. Waters should be Mr. McWaters. <br />Council Member Wilson asked that item 12. be moved forward for discussion. <br />12. Deliberate and acceptance of March financial report. <br />Council Member Wilson pointed out that expenses were up by over $900,000.00 from last <br />year at this time. Gene Anderson referred Council to the comment sheet that reflected which <br />departments had increased their spending from last year. He pointed out that all departments were <br />under the fifty percent mark in their budget, with the exception of the police department. <br />6. Deliberate and act on the approval of minutes from the meeting on March 24, 2008. <br />7. Receive and deliberate on reports and/or minutes from the following boards, commissions, <br />and committees: <br />a. City Council Task Force on Code Enforcement (2-19-2008, 3-4-2008, and 3-18-2008). <br />b. Traffic Commission (4-1-2008). <br />c. Paris Living (3-12-2008). <br />OO~.S <br />
