D RAFT <br />Attorney\reswork\current\CLG Grant App - Grand Theatre Res 2008 <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, <br />AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE <br />TEXAS HISTORICAL COMMISSION FOR A CERTIFIED LOCAL <br />GOVERNMENT GRANT TO FUND THE RESTORATION OF THE FRONT <br />FACADE OF THE GRAND THEATRE; AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE <br />OF FUNDS; ACCEPTING SAID GRANT AWARD UPON NOTICE THEREOF; <br />AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF ANY AND ALL DOCUMENTS <br />NECESSARY FOR ACCEPTANCE A111D IMPLEMENTATION OF SAID GRANT <br />UPON NOTICE THEREOF; MAKING OTHER FIIVDINGS AND PROVISIONS <br />RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the Texas Historic Commission provides grant funding for Certified <br />Local Government Grants and in 2002, the City of Paris was designated as a Certified Local <br />Government (CLG) by the Texas Historical Commission making the City eligible for CLG <br />grants for projects which are tied to the statewide comprehensive preservation planning <br />process; and, <br />WHEREAS, on April 28, 2008 the City Council approved a Professional Services <br />Agreement with Main Street Architects, Inc. for a conditions assessment on the Grand <br />Theatre in Paris, Texas to ensure that the front faqade is stable enough to withstand any <br />renovations, that the work performed is historically accurate, and that none of the work <br />performed will have to be undone later when a complete restoration of the building occurs; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, the Downtown Merchants Association has been actively seeking to raise <br />funds to restore the exterior of the Grand Theatre in order to improve the appearance of <br />the gateway to the downtown from the east and has already raised $8,000.00 towards this <br />project; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris desires to apply for a Certified Local <br />Government Grant for the restoration of the front fagade of the Grand Theatre in the <br />amount of $30,000.00 with $15,000.00 to be provided by State funds and $15,000.00 to be <br />provided by the City of Paris in the form of cash; and, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby <br />in all things approved. <br />- 000032 <br />
