environmental studies which could easily take five to six years to complete. Funds for the
Corps to do studies of this nature would require congessional authorization and would be at
least two years away. Reallocation or increasing the supply in the reservoir would require an
environmental study which also should be estimated at five years. Changes in the City's water
rights permit would likely be necessary to take advantage of the larger storage allocations.
Environmental studies show an endangered or threatened species, the "rock pocketbook
mussel" in Sanders Creek.
7. Our next steps include a presentation by HDR of potential population and water use
projections at our meeting on July 24h. In addition we will continue to monitor progress on
the TWDB survey of Pat Mayse and continue to develop information on the City's current
available resources. The City of Irving will make a presentation to the committee on Irving's
needs and objectives at our meeting on August 7th.
The Council should be aware that our current budget and timeframe are very limited. While
we currently believe that the $160,000 budget provided by Irving for studies will allow us to
reach our objectives, it will not allow the committee to pursue strategies of marginal value.
Our current schedule calls for completion of the work and a recommendation to the Council
by the end of the year. However, this is dependent upon our engineering and legal
consultant's ability to analyze Pat Mayse within a short timeframe after the TWDB report is
received. It may be advisable to extend the deadline for two to three months to allow more
time for discussion and absorption of these calculations.
4
• UOU01.~
