eGrants - Project Summary (MAKE SURE YOU CLOSE THIS PAGE Page 10 of 19
This section left intentionally blank.
beiectea rro
ACTIVITY
ecc ncuviuesc
PERCENTAGE:
DESCRIPTION
This project will utilize numerous methods and tools to strike at the target audience, normally beginning
with inteliigence gathering related to violent crimes. Criminal informants, as well as years of information
gathered from the investigation and prosecution of previous crimes, will assist officers in targeting high-
risk individuais. Additionally, crime stoppers information, surveillance, and constant pressure wiil result
in an overall reduction of crimes this project targets: violent crimes against l.amar County citizens. The
principle method of investigating and solving violent crimes against persons is reactive in nature. The
Investigation
100.00
continued operation of this unit and what is accomplished will lead to a proactive crackdown on crime,
especially as the target audience of repeat offenders becomes aware of stiffer and swifter penalties. The
specialized investigators will assist ali county agencies' criminal investigation divisions (CIDs) in making
connections between felony cases and sharing information. Information shared between cooperetive
agencies frequently solves challenging cases. In 2005 alone, two homicides were solved due to
intelligence gathering within the locai law enforcement community - one out of Tarcant County which
exempiifies this project's wiliingness to assist wherever the need may arise.
Geographic Area:
Lamar County is 90 miles northeast of the. Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, sittin9 on the Red River bordering Okiahoma. Lamar County is the
third county west of the northeast comer of the state and has a population of 50,000. Neighboring counties have larger, more affluent
adjacent counties with which to partner and share resource benefits (i.e. Red River County/Clarksvilie partners with Bowie
County)Texarkana, Fannin County/Bonham partners with Grayson County/Sherman and Denison). Lamar County sits isolated and left to
handle most of its own problems with limited resources.
Target Audience:
The audience for this project will be persons who choose to commit violent offenses against other individuals.
Gender.
Males and females will be equally targeted as their criminal responsibility is identified and ciassified with regard to level of offender and
violence potentiaL
Ages:
The age group ranges from juveniles (under 17 years of age) to any adult identified with criminal responsibility.
Special Characteristics:
The project area is considered primarily low income with a significant portion of the population having less than a high school education.
Single-parent families are dominant as are those persons on fixed incomes and government subsidies. Economically, the county exists on
the spent salaries of light industry and low-wage retail establishments. Without the services of non-profit aid agencies and civic clubs,
quality of life would be dismal. ,
Measures Information
Introduction
The Project Measures section of the application collects data to track the performance of your proposed project toward its stated
objectives.
