Fast and COPS In Schools and other funding through grants to enable us to reach

out to our community in various ways such as:

1. Officers assigned to specific high - crime rate areas.

2. Officers assigned to problem - oriented policing projects (such as a specialized
narcotics unit).

3. A Police Athletic League with personnel hired to work with at - risk kids.

4. Officers who have worked with the public housing units and the NAACP
to bring about a positive change in some previously crime ridden areas.

5. Juvenile gang officer who worked to prevent criminal gang activities.

6. Violence Against Women Unit.

7. A State Recognized Crime Prevention Unit.

8. And our school resource officers.

As you can see, we believe in and attempt to immerse ourselves in the concepts of

community policing. In the last year (2003) we were fortunate enough to see a 9.5

percent decrease in violent crimes in our city. This accounts for 445 fewer violent

crimes committed against our citizens. So, as you can see the programs initiated

over the last few years are having substantial effects. Again, we do not take this

funding for granted and have tried to sustain every program granted as much as

possible. You have our sincere gratitude and we want to thank you for considering

this application.

.~~~

Karl oui
Chief of Police
Paris Police Department
Paris, Texas 75460

~~
ianne Stega
Superintendent of Schools
CISD
Paris, Texas 75460
