ORDINANCE N0. <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS; <br />AMENDING CHAPTER 12 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, BY REPEALING ARTICLE III, FIRE RESERVE UNIT, SECTIONS 12-51 <br />THROUGH 12-66 AND REPEALING ARTICLE IV, FIRE PREVENTION CODE, <br />SECTIONS 12-86 THROUGH 12-89; ESTABLISHING A NEW ARTICLE III, <br />ENTITLED FIRE CODE; ADOPTING THE 2006 EDITION OF THE <br />INTERNATIONAL FIRE CODE; ESTABLISHING LOCAL AMENDMENTS TO <br />THE 2006 EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL FIRE CODE; PROVIDING <br />FOR ENFORCEMENT; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS <br />RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; PROVIDING A REPEALER CLAUSE, A <br />SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, A SAVINGS CLAUSE, A PENALTY CLAUSE; A111D <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, for the last 25 years, the City of Paris has followed and enforced the <br />Standard Fire Code developed by the Southern Building Code Congress (SBCC) as it has <br />been amended from time to time; and, <br />WHEREAS, the SBCC Standard Fire Code has become stale and difficult to <br />administer, and the Fire Chief and the Fire Marshal of the Paris Fire Department have <br />reviewed other fire codes available and have determined that the International Fire Code, <br />2006 Edition, provides the best uniform fire code and regulations for the City of Paris, <br />Texas; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Fire Chief and Fire Marshal of the Paris Fire Department hereby <br />recommend the 2006 International Fire Code as the best uniform fire code to provide <br />uniform guidelines and regulations for the safeguarding of life and property from fire and <br />explosion hazards arising from the storage, handling and use of hazardous substances, <br />materials and devices, and from conditions hazardous to life or property in the occupancy <br />of buildings and premises in the City of Paris, Texas; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City of Paris <br />and its citizens to repeal the existing Fire Prevention Code and to and adopt the 2006 <br />Edition of the International Fire Code as amended with local amendments as set out below; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, the City Fire Department has not had an active Fire Reserve Unit in the <br />City of Paris for many years and the Fire Chief desires to remove that Article from Chapter <br />12 of the City of Paris Code of Ordinances to eliminate any confusion among the citizens of <br />Paris. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, TEXAS, THAT: <br />0 U00050" <br />
