Paris Public Library Advisory Board Minutes May 20, 2009 The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met Wednesday afternoon, May 20, 2009, at 4 o'clock in the Library Gallery. Chairman Bill Kennedy called the meeting to order. Other members in attendance were Debbie Anderson, Linda Vandiver, and Eddie Poole. Also present were Library Director Priscilla McAnally and Charla Hines of the Paris Housing Authority. Minutes from the previous meeting were approved with the following corrections: • The Volunteer luncheon was held on April 20 • The spelling of Ca.ra Sulsar's name was corrected • The Director had already attended the Nashville conference Chairman Kennedy proposed a summer reading program for the Paris Housing Authority children. The name of the program is "Let's Read Together." Ms. Hines gave input from the PHA perspective as to how we can integrate the library program with her existing summer program. Ms. Hines expressed the desire that the program go beyond the summer months. It was suggested that we coordinate possible dates with school district teacher workdays. She will put more detail to the plan and contact Priscilla. The children's summer reading activities have been scheduled. Area businesses have contributed rewards. They include Texas Rangers tickets, Hawaiian Falls Waterpark two-for-one tickets, a$50 photo session with Dixon Photography, and bowling and swimming passes. RSVP and Hallmark have donated gift bags for the registration packets. The budget is on track - no unusual expenditures. $38,000 remains in the materials line item. The statistical report was down from last year with the exception of library cards and program attendance. It was noted that Jackie Alsobrook's sister had passed away. The Board authorized a memorial gift. Due to scheduling conflicts, the June board meeting will be on June 24 instead of June 17. The 2009-2010 budget proposal has been submitted with virtually no change from the 2008-2009 budget. A patron's survey is being taken. Priscilla will address concerns gleaned from the surveys, possibly in newspaper columns. If possible, the survey will be made available on the city website.
