PoLicY IssuE(s): Council objective BACKGROUND: At the July 13t" council meeting City Council gave direction to staff to hire additional temporary employees to expand the current Code Enforcement abatement crew. Hiring Partners was notified after the council meeting and informed to send us two additional people to make a total of four people on the abatement crew. (We are charged $97.60 per day ($12.20/hour) for each Hiring Partners person.) Staff is also investigating additional alternatives, one of which is creating two, three person crews to do abatement. In addition, staff has spoken with the NAACP about the possibility of using volunteers to abate debris from lots and having adjoining property owners adopt or purchase vacant lots. Staff is investigating potential legal issues with these possible solutions and also waiting to hear from the NAACP on additional input and commitments.
