CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM BRIEFING SHEET <br />Submittal Date: <br />Originaring Department: <br />Presented By: <br />Agenda Item No.: <br />11 /09/09 <br />Council Date: <br />Police <br />Chief Bob Hundley <br />9. <br />12/14/09 <br />RECOMMENDED MOTION: <br />Move to approve a resolution with additional language authorizing an application for and inter-local <br />agreement with Lamar County for the continuation of the Felony Crimes Unit Grant through the <br />Criminal Justice Division of the State of Texas ($167,686.00 with a cash match of $10,755.00) for the <br />period of October 1 2009 through September 30, 2010 and authorizing the City Manager to execute all <br />necessary documents. <br />POLICY ISSUE(S): <br />Grant requirement; Public safety; Intergovernmental cooperation <br />Council approved this application by resolution (2009-097) on September 28, 2009. The grant has been <br />preliminarily approved, but staff has been contacted by the Governor's office regarding a change of <br />language on the resolution. The resolution originally listed the application as being made to the US <br />Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. The requested change will list the Governor's <br />Office, Criminal Justice Division as the granting entity for the application. <br />This grant funds salary and benefits for two Paris Police Officers and One Lamar County Sheriff's <br />Deputy to investigate felony crimes committed in the City of Paris and Lamar County. <br />The Felony Crimes Unit has now been in existence for 2 years. In the last 6 month reporting period, the <br />unit reported 41 felony arrests involving 44 felony charges. A total of $41,223 of cash, drugs, firearms <br />and other property has been seized during this reporting period. <br />The grant is for the amount of $167,686 with a local cash match of $10,755.
