A largely rural, limited industrial tax base does not provide locai <br />governmental entities adequate financial resources to effectively dedicate law enforcement officers who can investigate these crimes. Lack <br />of manpower to investigate crimes often feads to cases remaining unsolved or un-prosecuted for up to five (5) years while <br />suspects/defendants remain un-arrested, abscond, and/or re-offend as victims and residents live in fear of criminals waiking their small- <br />town streets. <br />Supporting Data: <br />Provide as much supporting data, to include baseline statistics and the sources of your data, which are pertlnent to where the grant projec[ <br />is located and/or targeted. Texas Department of Public Safety crime records state that violent crime accounted for 11% of ali crimes in Texas for 2004. In <br />Lamar County for 2005, 34% of all felony crimes were violent.
