Cheri asked that committees submit minutes for meetings since they are needed for
Preserve America Reports.
Dog Dash Edwin pickle, Bill Harris and Cheri Bedford are working on this.
In the past it has been known as the MistleToe Trot. Bar Lo Kennells is
providing scarves for dogs, pictures can be taken with Santa, and participants
will get a t-shirt. Edwanye Samis is taking care of traffic during the walk.
Committee Reports
Organization No report
Design Meeting will be held Thursday at 6:00pm at 1910 Pine Bluff to work on
Nativity Scene for Bywaters Park. Bike Racks are in the works for the start of
next year
Promotions Festival of Pumpkins games went great. Kids were excited and the game
area was busy the entire time. 7ames Brockway suggested that tables and chairs
be placed around closer to food vendors for people to sit and eat.
Economic 4A vs. 46 has made its first appearance in the paper. Paris is a 4A
which means 1/4% of tax dollars goes to industry. If Paris was a 46 the money
could be used for Quality of Life projects. Goes hand in hand with industry.
Wonlt take money away from industry. Industry is not what creates taxes and this
would help to increase sales tax for retail and help fund 46 projects. 4B can
also help fund tourism better than we currently are. Main Street board members
can call their reps and show support for a possible legislative bill that will
make 4A cities 4B and it won't have to go before the city for a vote. It only
takes about 5 people to get a representative worried or excited about an issue.
4B could fund a public restroom for powntown, a current project that lacks the
funding. Edwin Pickle showed concern that changing to a 46 would take away from
industry and without industry we donlt have the people to support the retail
business. Britin pointed out that the Paris EDC will still control the money and
that when industry is considering cities for new locations they look at the
quality of life, as do the workers moving to work for existing industry. Edwin
is going to let Britin know when future EDC meetings are so that she can attend
them if possible and hear the concerns from the PEDC board.
HPC Report Currently working on redoing the certificate of appropriateness far
signage
Discussion and Possible Action regarding future projects Grand Theatre project
Committees have been formed in the Leadership Lamar class for fundraiser.
Dancing w/the Stars and Golf Tournament are two events already planned. An 8ft
replica of the Grand Theatre sign will be auctioned off after it is used in the
Annual Christmas parade. Some movie posters from the grand have been discussed
for a possible fundraiser.
Posters need to be located and check for condition to see if they will show any
interest. If so Daniel Frame Studio will frame them and they will be auctioned
off. The letters for the marquee have been cleaned and repainted and the class
will be selling the marquee off for ads for another fundraiser.
17
