Pamela Love, 1555 17`" Street N.E., property owner spoke in favor of the petition. <br />Ms. Love stated she is proposing to open a residential care home for veterans. The <br />veterans will be people who have been homeless or they need help to get back on <br />their feet. Ms. Love further stated that the home has five bedrooms and she will not <br />be expanding the structure. She plans on having five veterans plus herself housed at <br />the property. There will be no additional vehicles parked at the home. Ms. Love <br />stated her license is pending; she must meet and complete all requirements prior to <br />receiving approval. <br />B. The following spoke in opposition of the petition. <br />Marva Joe, 1610 17 th Street N.E., property owner, spoke in opposition to the <br />petition. Mrs. Joe asked what the difference in low density and high density is and <br />will this affect any other properties. Ms. Joe further stated she has lived at this <br />house for forty plus years and the area has always been single residential. The <br />neighborhood is very quiet and most of the home owners are older people or single <br />women. Ms. Joe further stated she feels like this home should be located in a <br />commercial area. She is opposed to this zoning change and presented a written <br />letter to commissioners from her and her husband Lucius Joe. <br />Clarene Montgomery, 1605 17th Street N.E., property owner, spoke in opposition to <br />the petition. Ms. Montgomery stated she is in opposition to the petition, her <br />family owns a home right next door to the property. Her family has had this <br />property for thirty-five plus years, she fears the traffic will increase and the <br />neighborhood will be less safe, along with property values going down. <br />Wanda Johnson, 1615 17 `h Street N.E., property owner, spoke in opposition to the <br />petition. Ms. Johnson stated she lives two houses down from the property and is a <br />single parent. She expressed concerns that the neighborhood would be less safe. <br />Ms. Johnson further stated that the home should be placed in a commercial area and <br />not in a neighborhood. <br />Public hearing was declared closed. <br />Motion was made by Richard Hunt, seconded by Dennis Chalaire to deny the change to <br />the Future Land Use Map. Motion carried 4-0. <br />4.
