CITY COUNCIL APPLICATION <br />The Paris City Council is seeking a committed individual who is dedicated to the well-being of the Paris <br />community to serve on the City Council. Qualifications for Council Members are as follows: <br />Subchapter A. Texas Election Code - Eligibility for Public Office Sec. 141.001 <br />To be eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, a public elective office in this state, a <br />person must: <br />Be a United States citizen; <br />Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of <br />appointment as applicable; <br />Have not been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court; <br />Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise <br />released from the resulting disabilities; <br />Have resided continuously in the state for twelve months and in the territory from which the office is <br />elected for six months. <br />Paris City Charter Section 17 <br />To be eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, a public elective office, a person must: <br />Be 18 years of age or older; <br />Be a United States citizen; <br />Be a resident of the State of Texas for twelve months as of the deadline for filing for office, and a bona <br />fide resident of the district in which the person seeks election for twelve months as of the deadline before <br />filing for office; <br />Have not been convicted of a felony; <br />Have not been adjudged to be mentally incompetent by a court or be disqualified by reason of any <br />provision of any section of the City of Paris Charter or of Chapter 141 of the Texas Election Code. <br />A member of the council shall immediately forfeit his office if the member ceases to possess any of the <br />qualifications specified in section 17 or in any other section of the Charter or while in office is convicted <br />of a felony, is placed on felony probation or is otherwise subject to any type of court supervision <br />following disposition or resolution of a felony charge. For purposes of this section, a bona fide residence <br />shall be defined as a place in which the council member actually resides, prima facie evidence of which <br />may include a utility account in the name of the council member, or the member's spouse, parent or child <br />with whom the member actually resides. <br />(Ord.
