PEDC Bnard Briefing <br />Sustainabie Manufacturing Raadmap Xnitiative <br />Timeline and Community Context <br />Time_ line <br />Navember 2010 - Conduct S WAT Analysis at joint meeting with City and County, Chamber, PJC and <br />PEDC leadership. <br />December 2010 - Announce Carnmunity-Wide Strategic Planning Process and conduct extensive survey <br />of corrununity leadership. <br />January 2011 - Approximately 104 community and civic leaders convene for Strategic Planning Event. <br />Apri12411 - Invite Richard Seline of Regionnovate as keynota speaker for strategic planning follow-up <br />session to discuss critical issues related to water econamic development strategy, marketing and <br />attraction, and busaness retentian and expansion. We requested a proposal from Regionnovate. <br />May 2011 - After discussion at PEDC Board Meeting, Seline is invited back for follow-up discussions <br />and meeting with patential members of Project Advisory Team. <br />June - September 2011 - With PEDC approval, we move this agenda forward as the capstone of FY <br />2010-1 l, and a launch point for FY 2011-12 and beyond. <br />? Critical Priorities (Rank Order) <br />l. Develop long-range plans to ensure abundant water for our targeted industries. <br />2. lmplement aggressive bnsiness retention and expansion programs and other actions to decrease <br />the risk of ciosure of our tap emplayers. <br />3. Develop long- and short-range plans to address aging infrastructnre (water, sewer, roads, etc.) to <br />ensure we are "shovel ready" for new industry expansions. <br />4. Enhance the depth and cansistency of the loeal leadership pool with a shared vision of our future. <br />5. Advocate for, and develop aggressive plans to improve the transpartation system, incIuding <br />priorities of four-lanes for Highway 24 to Commerce, which will provide better access to Interstate <br />30 and ather improvements as they are identified. <br />6. Cultivate cooperation and coordination between and among governing bodies (City, County, <br />School Districts, etc.) and civic organizations. <br />Improve community image on diversity. <br />Proposal Summary <br />1. We are focusing on Phase 1 only. Phase 2 is largely workfarce-related. We will coordinate with PJC <br />and WF SolutiQns an their TIP Strategies study for the workforce piece. <br />2. We are focused on Paxis, Lamax County and our immediate trade area from Retail Attractions to <br />define our region. <br />3. This is not another study or a report, or traditional ED analysis. <br />4. This is an implementatipn plan (road map) for an innovatian strategy for marketing, promoting and <br />attracting resources and new industry to our region. <br />S. The strategy is based on leveraging our strengths and assets: water, manufacturing base and location <br />advantages. <br />6. 4ur value proposition ta industry is: Paris, Texas is a location with the assets, resources and knaw- <br />how that helps your company lower it's margina] costs and increase revenues through sustainable <br />manufacturing. <br />7.
