RAPID INF[LTRATION
A component of RAIN INDUCED UI. It can occur during and/or just after a RAIN
EVENT as a result of RLJN-OFF entering the pipe trench and entering the pipe through,
typically, infiltration defects but acting in the same manner as does INFLOW. In most
cases, without considerable investigation, it is not distinguishable from INFLOW.
REHABILITATION
The process by which LEAKS and DEFECTS are repaired thus reducing the amount of
UI entering a SANITARY COLLECTION SYSTEM.
RUN-OFF
That portion of storm water that remains primarily at the ground surface as opposed to
penetrating the soil.
SANITARY COLLECTION SYSTEM
MAINLINE, SERVICE LINES and MANHOLES maintained by a municipality, county,
or other agency.
SERVICE LINE
A service line directs flow from a resident or business to either a MAINLINE or
MANHOLE. Municipal service is that portion of the service line located within the
MAINLINE right-of-way (or easement). Private service line is located on private
property.
ADS Environmental Services, Inc.
VI-6
