A. All abrasive material used in the removal of existing protective coating <br />systems will be silica free and low dust producing. Materials such as copper <br />slag and Green Diamond are permitted. Abrasives derived from coal or <br />petroleum product that leaves an oily residue on the surface of the steel are <br />not permitted. Submit abrasive selection for approval. <br />B. All paints, thinners and associated products used in the application of the <br />protective coating systems will be manufactured by Tnemec Company of <br />Kansas City, Mo., unless an alternate coating system is selected as provided <br />for in Paragraph 1- Scope of Contract or Paragraph 10 - Alternate Coating <br />Systems. Pricing for alternate coating systems is NOT required. <br />3. REPAIR ITEMS OF WORK <br />All welding repairs must be completed before any paint is applied to the structure. All <br />interior and exterior surfaces must be blasted and primed, and any additive repairs <br />made, before any intermediate or finish coats may be applied to the struciure. All <br />welding shall be in accordance with AWS Structural Welding Code D1.1 and these <br />Specifications, including TS 40 of the Technical Specifications. <br />(1) Remove existing 24" diameter roof hatch and weld new 30" diameter <br />hatch in its place per Detail in Drawings Section. <br />(2) Remove existing 30" square aluminum hatch adjacent to center vent on <br />roof and weld new 30" square hatch in its' place per Detail in Drawings <br />Section. <br />(3) Remove existing 24" diameter center vent and install new 30" diameter <br />vent in its place per Detail in Drawings Section. <br />(4) After blast cleaning leg base plates, replace loose grout with new non- <br />shrink grout. Replace only loose grout after sandblast cleaning. <br />(5) Replace all ladders on structure with new AWWA style ladders per <br />Detail in Drawings Section. This includes leg ladder starting 10' above <br />grade to balcony, exterior ladder from balcony to center vent, interior <br />bowl ladder from top hatch opening on roof to floor of tank and interior <br />riser ladder from floor of bowl to grade. Install new cable style <br />galvanized DBI/SALA safety climb devices with cable grabs on each <br />ladder. Total of four climb devices and cable grabs required, <br />a. Roll roof ladder to curvature of tank. Measure radius of tank in <br />field to obtain roll dimension. Submit shop drawing to Engineer for <br />SW-2 <br />~ 1 433 <br />
