TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION NO. 20 <br />PAINTS AND PAINTING <br />INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR COATING SYSTEMS <br />20.01 GENERAL <br />1. The objectives of these specifications are: <br />A. To govern selection of coating materials of established quality and <br />performance to provide optimum corrosion protection to the surfaces to be <br />coated. <br />B. To set standards of workmanship and application necessary to produce a first <br />class job. <br />C. To provide the Contractor with appropriate product information or <br />references thereto necessary to obtain required quality application. <br />Contractor shall be responsible for preparation of surfaces, application, <br />protection and drying of paint coatings, and for supplying the appropriate <br />tools, tackle, scaffolding, labor, and materials necessary to complete the <br />painting work. <br />2. All painting shall be done strictly in accordance with the paint manufacturer's <br />instructions and shall be performed in a manner satisfactory to the Engineer. <br />Painting shall be done at such times as the Engineer and the Contractor may agree <br />upon in order that clean, dust-free and neat work may be obtained. <br />3. Contractor is responsible for obtaining all necessary product data from the paint <br />manufacturer and/ or its representative prior to start of painting. <br />4. Quality of paints and coatings: <br />The paints and paint products of Tnemec Company, Inc., Kansas City, Missouri, <br />are the standard paints. The usual "or equal" clause shall apply. No request for <br />approval of an additional manufacturer will be considered which will decrease the <br />film thickness designated and/or the number of coats to be applied or which offers <br />a change from generic type of coating specified or its quality. Request for <br />additional manufacturer shall contain, in writing, the full name of each product, <br />descriptive literature and data sheets, instructions for use, its generic type and its <br />nonvolatile content by volume.
