training & Certification by SSPC, NACE or other acknowledged sources such <br />as trained Professional Engineers or a Certified Industrial Hygienist is required <br />to be considered current and competent. Photocopies of Certificates of <br />Training must be furnished to the Owner to prove that the competent person is <br />indeed trained for lead abatement according to OSHA requirements. <br />35.08 CRITERIA FOR HANDLING HAZARDOUS WASTE <br />1. The Owner is the generator of the waste for this project and the Contractor is <br />the co-generator. <br />2. The Contractor is responsible for implementing the following procedures in <br />dealing with the lead paint removal debris: <br />a. Representative samples of the debris will be selected and tested by TCLP. <br />At a minimum, 4 samples will be tested per roll off container. This is a rate <br />of 1 TCLP/4 tons of abrasive debris. <br />b. The Contractor is required to submit the name of the laboratory doing the <br />testing. If possible, the same laboratory doing the air monitoring should be <br />considered. <br />3. Waste Stabilization: The Contractor is advised that stabilization of the debris to <br />reduce its leachablility is permitted. <br />a. The use of propriety materials added to the abrasive (e.g., Blastox - TM) is <br />allowed. <br />4. Hazardous Waste: if the tests of the debris show the waste to be hazardous, the <br />following requirements will apply: <br />Site Storage and Handling: <br />a. The Contractor will use proper containers to store waste on site. <br />Containers must be sealed to prevent wind from dispersing debris. <br />b. Paint debris will not be placed directly on the uncovered ground and must <br />be shielded to prevent dispersion of the debris by wind or rain. <br />c. Any evidence of improper storage will be reason to shut job down until <br />corrective action is taken. <br />d. The Contractor must apply for an EPA identification number. <br />TS35-6 <br />_ _ 467 <br />
