These <br /> standards are promulgated pursuant to Sec. 406.0 <br /> of the General Pretreatment Regulations for <br /> Existing and New Sources (40 CFR Parts 125 and <br /> 403). <br /> 9) Chemical Oxygen Demand ( COD The measure of <br /> oxygen consuming capacity of organic and inor- <br /> ganic matter present in the water or wastewater <br /> expressed in mg/1 as the amount of oxygen <br /> consumed from a chemical oxidant in a specific <br /> test, but not differentiating stable from unstable <br /> organic matter and thus not necessarily <br /> correlating with biochemical oxygen demand. <br /> 10) City - The City of Paris, Paris, Texas, or any <br /> authorized person acting in its behalf. <br /> 11) Composite Sample - A series of samples mixed <br /> together so as to approximate the average <br /> strength of discharge to the sewer. A composite <br /> sample for a twenty-four hour period shall consist <br /> of a pool of not less than twelve samples (100 ml. <br /> minimum volume), unless special conditions <br /> warrant otherwise and the Supervisor designates <br /> an alternative procedure that is acceptable. <br /> Samples shall be iced or refrigerated during <br /> sampling and transportation to appropriate labo- <br /> ratory facilities. <br /> 12) Control Manhole - A manhole giving access to a <br /> building sewer at a point before the building <br /> sewer discharge mixes with other discharges in <br /> the public sewer. <br /> 13) Control Point - The point on a building sewer <br /> where access to a discharge is provided, which <br /> shall be before the discharge mixes with others in <br /> the public sewer. The control point shall be the <br /> control manhole unless otherwise designated by <br /> the Supervisor. <br /> 14) Cooling Water - Water discharged from air condi- <br /> tioning, cooling or other uses, to which the only <br /> pollutant added in significant amounts is heat, <br /> exclusive of boiler blowdown wastewater. <br /> 15) Direct Discharge - The discharge of wastewater, <br /> treated or untreated, directly to the waters of <br /> the State of Texas. <br /> <br /> 16) Domestic User - Any person who discharges only <br /> normal domestic sewage. <br /> 17) Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA - The <br /> U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, or where <br /> appropriate the term may also be used as a <br /> designation for the administrator or other duly <br /> authorized official of said agency. <br /> 18) Environmental Services Supervisor - The person <br /> designated by the City Nlanager to enforce Chap- <br /> ter 31 of the Code of Ordinances on behalf of the <br /> City and other such duties as designated by the <br /> City Manager. <br /> 19) Garbage - Animal and vegetable wastes and <br /> residue from the preparation, cooking and <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 2 <br />
