CONSTRIICTION METHODS <br />2.1 <br />CLEARING AND GRUBBING <br />2.1.1 DESCRIPTION <br />Cleari.ng and grubbing shall consist of the <br />removal and disposal of trees, stumps, brush, <br />roots, vegetation, logs, rubbish and other <br />objectionable matter from the designated area. <br />2.1.2 CONSTRIICTION METHODS <br />The designated area shall be cleared of all <br />trees, brush shrubbery, plants, etc., not <br />designated by OWNER or indicated on the plans <br />to be left in place and shall be preserved. <br />Trees and brush designated to be left in place <br />shall be carefully trimmed as directed and <br />shall be protected from scarring, barking or <br />other injuries during construction operations. <br />Pruned limbs over two inches (50mm) in <br />diameter shall be treated by painting the <br />exposed ends with an approved asphaltic <br />material. Al1 stumps, roots, etc., shall be <br />removed to a depth of 2 feet below existing <br />ground surface. All holes remaining after <br />clearing and grubbing shall be backfilled and <br />the entire area graded to prevent ponding of <br />water. On areas required for borrow sites and <br />materials sources, stumps, roots, etc., shall <br />be removed to the complete extent necessary to <br />prevent such objectionable matter becoming <br />mixed with the material to be used in <br />construction. <br />All cleared and grubbed material shall be <br />disposed of by the CONTRACTOR. Unless <br />otherwise provided, all merchantable timber <br />removed as previously specified shall become <br />the property of the CONTRACTOR. It is the <br />intent of this specification to provide for <br />the removal and disposal of all obstructions <br />and objectionable materials not specifically <br />provided for elsewhere by the plans and <br />specifications. <br />79 <br />
