support all adjacent structures above and <br />below the ground; the installation and <br />operation of all pumping, bailing, and <br />draining necessary to keep the excavation free <br />from seepage water, water from sewer, drains, <br />ditches, creeks, and other sources, and to <br />provide for the uninterrupted flow of sewers <br />and surface waters during progress of the <br />construction; the removal, after the <br />completion of the work, of all sheeting, <br />shoring and bracing not necessary to support <br />the sides of the excavation; the satisfactory <br />disposal of excess and unsuitable materials <br />not required or which cannot be used for <br />backfilling; compacting and refilling, after <br />settlement of all excavated areas; the <br />restoration of all streets, alleys, right-of- <br />ways and other lands, private or public, <br />damaged or occupied by the CONTR.ACTOR in the <br />performance of the contract to the same (or <br />improved) condition as they were prior to the <br />beginning of the work. Replacement of <br />previously constructed items, such as curb, <br />gutter, sidewalks, driveways, paving, and <br />etc., shall conform to the specifications for <br />new construction, unless directed otherwise by <br />the OWNER. <br />2.3.2 SITE PREPARATION <br />The construction site shall be prepared for <br />construction operations by the removal and <br />disposal of all obstructions and objectionable <br />materials from the designated construction <br />area. Such obstructions and objectionable <br />materials shall include the removal of <br />designated trees, bushes, grass, miscellaneous <br />stone, brick, concrete, scrap iron, and all <br />rubbish and debris whether above or below <br />ground level. It is the intent of this <br />specification to provide for the removal and <br />disposal of all objectionable materials not <br />specifically provided for elsewhere by the <br />plans and specifications. The removal of such <br />items shall be accomplished prior to the <br />grading and excavation operations. The <br />removal and disposal of such items shall not <br />be measured or paid for as a separate contract <br />pay item. Such items shall be considered as <br />incidental work and the cost thereof shall be <br />included in such contract pay item as provided <br />in the proposal and contract. <br />85 <br />
