Specific Facility Standards (Elmhurst, Illinois)2 <br />Neiphborhood Playlot <br />Size: <br />Service Area: <br />Location: <br />Usual facilities: <br />Neiahborhood Park <br />At least 1 acre preferred <br />1/4 mile or less <br />High density neighborhoods where private yards do not exist. <br />Paved areas; playground apparatus area for small children; <br />usually private responsibility. <br />Area per 1,000 persons: 3 acres <br />Size: 5-10 acres, not including parking <br />Service Area: 1/2 mile or as limited by geographical barriers <br />Location: Preferably adjacent to elementary schools or near the center <br />of the neighborhood. <br />Usual Facilities: Softball/baseball fields, multiple-use paved areas, ptayground <br />apparatus areas, landscaped areas, and picnic areas. Small <br />field house. Minimum of automobile parking. <br />District Park <br />Area per 1,000 persons: 3 acres <br />Size: 10-30 acres ' <br />Service Area: 1 mile <br />Location: Preferably near the center of 4 to 5 neighborhoods. <br />Usual Facilities: Softball/baseball fields, multiple-use paved areas, playground <br />apparatus areas, landscaped areas, and picnic areas. Small <br />field house. Minimum of automobile parking. <br />Community Swimminq Pools - One pool for every 20,000 persons. 8,000 to 10,000 s.f. of <br />water and double that for deck space. <br />Tennis Courts - One lighted for every 1,500 persons. <br />Softball Diamonds - 1 for every 3,000 persons, 1/2 lighted. <br />Camping Facilities -1 group camp for every 25,000 population. 500-1000 acres ideal size; <br />suitable for long term camping, school camping, and family camping. <br />The City of Paris should adopt these criteria or something similar as for development and <br />refurbishing of parks within the city. <br />21bid, Gold, p 286. <br />-7- <br />
