MESA began as a team of landscape architects founded in 1981. Their idea was simple,
yet revolutionary--to bring new design and artistic sensibilities to landscape architecture,
creating a visual language that reflected both nature and local culture to create settings
with a strong sense of place. The name "MESA" was originally chosen because it
identified our Southwestern roots, relating us to the simple yet powerful landform. In a
time of rapidly changing urban landscapes, the name conveys powerful and unchanging
land, beneath, and reflects an underlying respect for the land, which shapes the changes
taking place upon it. The word "mesa's" original Spanish meaning, "table," represents
our open company culture. Our firm is a place where }eam members feel free to gather
around the table, freely exchanging ideas, solutions and suggestions, creating ideas that
reflect the best of everyone on our team of professi~mals.

Over the years, the company has grown and evolved, becoming more interdisciplinary in
order to fully incorporate the essence of the land into every aspect of a project. By
~combining landscape architecture With experience in plantting, urban design and
architecture, MESA is able to offer clients the full diversity of our talents without
sacrificing our personallzed clien~ relationships. This preserves our flexibility as well as
our responsiveness, enabling us to fulfil, l a shared vision of excellence. Like the landform
that inspired our name, MESA Destgn Group embodies a natural strength, rising fi'om
the ground and looking out onto an unlimited horizon.

Over the years, our philosophy has been shaped by values'we feel are important to
balancing human needs and natural beauty. Every project reflects these critical attributes,
by

Making visible the presence and character of the n'atural environment ...

Prqviding an organically inspired overlay of local cultural influences ...

Evoking human response by creating a unique sense of place ...

Bringing people together, helping to interweave natural beauty and human interaction
into the fabric that is a cbmmunity...

Transforming materials into appropriate forms, creating a sense of integrity...

Creating in each visitor a sense' of something larger and more spiritual than the
individual ...

Investing our passion by creating an emotional response in the people who use this
place ...

l-n the twenty years since ou~' founding, MESA Design Group has grown beyond its
regional beginnings, with project kxperience in thirty states and eight foreigh countries.
As our capabilities have' grown, so have our expertise and reputation. Our team's
extensive leadership experience encompasse~ landscape architecture, architecture, and
planning, enabling us to provide a full range of services. At the same time, we offer
flexible solutions and personalized service to our clients. We still believe in the strength
of regionalism as ihe foundat!'on of all our work, in finding new ways to celebrate nature
and in the integrity of both form and materials, creating distinctive settb~gs for a wide
range of applications.

"Therefore, wheh ~:' build, let us think that we buiM forefei'.
Let it not be for present delight~ nor for present use alone;
Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for..."

John Ruskin
