Cit~ of Paris Stud~ of Lake Crook Marcht 2001

comments correctly pointed out that the property is big enough for both uses.

Question: Given the choice between the two following options do you favor
&n,elopment of the property for picnicking, camping, hiking and similar outdoor
recreational purposes OR do favor development of at least part of the land as an
athletic complex containing possibly ballfieids and play fields?

The intent in a properly worded survey is to limit the choices to just a few. In this
question, 69.1% of those responding favored picnicking, etc. over a more formal ball
complex.

Question: If development into recreational uses were to take place, what types of
facilities do you favor?

The respondents w~re given a list of twenty five options and given an opportunity to
"write in" their preference if it did not appear in the list. The following is the list in
descending order of preference and the percentage of all 10,584 selections made by
respondents according to the survey:

Picnicking 10.3%
Freshwater fishing piers 9.2%
Playgrounds/swings 8.3%
Walking/jogging trails 8.3%
Boat ramps 7.0%
Hiking (unimproved trail) 6.9%
Tent camping pads 5.9%
Beach/swimming 5.8%
Bicycling (improved trail) 5.4%
Recreational vehicle camping 5.0%
Baseball fields 3.2%
Softball fields 3.1%

Horseback riding trails 3.0%
Amphitheater 2.7%
Basketball courts 2.3%
Skateboard park 2.1%
Tennis courts 2.0%
Golf course 1.9%
Archery 1.8%
Soccer fields 1.7%
Clay/trap shooting ranges 1.7%
Other 0.8%
Roller hockey rinks 0.7%
"Frisbee' golf course 0.7%
All of the above 0.07%

Question: Should the users of recreational facilities be required to pay user fees?
A resounding 64% of 1,356 respondents felt users of facilities should pay fees.

Question: Given a choice between two of the following options, do you favor
development of the property for outdoor camping, hiking and similar outdoor
recreational purposes OR do you favor the city entering into some public/private
partnerships to sell the surrounding real estate (but not the lake itsel_D ?

Of 1,375 respondents to this questio~h 84.9% favored the development of the
property for outdoor camping, hiking, etc. Some commented the property was big
enough for both and the two choices are not mutually exclusive.
