City Council Meeting <br />May 14, 2001 <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />provide for maximum, reasonable, and prudent rates of speed on certain <br />portions of FM Highway 137 from the intersection of Business US 82-H and <br />Bonham Street, in a southerly direction a distance of approximately 0.200 miles <br />the speed limit shall be thirty-five miles per hour at all times; thence southerly <br />a distance of approximately 0.689 miles the speed limit shall be forth-five (45) <br />miles per hour at all times; thence southerly a distance of approximately 1.277 <br />miles the speed limit shall be fifty-five (55) miles per hour at all times to the <br />south city limits of Paris. <br /> <br />Karl Louis, Chief of Police, came forward explaining the process that the Texas <br />Department of Highways and Transportation uses to survey the traffic. <br />Considering the number of accidents that have occurred on 19th NW and 19th <br />SW, he recommended a 30 mile per hour speed zone from Bonham Street to <br />Washington Street on 19th SW to FM 137 and from Bonham Street to Shiloh <br />Street on FM 79, which is 19th NW, otherwise adopting the same speeds limits <br />that the Texas Department of Highways and Transportation has recommended. <br /> <br />After discussion, a motion was made by Councilman McCarthy, seconded by <br />Councilman Plata, to table action on the ordinance. The motion carried 6 ayes, <br />0 nays. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Mayor Pro Tem <br />Manning, to table action on an ordinance providing for maximum, reasonable, <br />and prudent rates of speed on certain portion of FM Highway 79 (19th Street <br />NW). The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br /> <br />City Manager Malone announced that minutes from the City Council Drainage <br />Study Committee of May 14, 2000, had been furnished to the City Council. <br />Prior to the council meeting, the Drainage Study Committee held another <br />meeting and were recommending the expenditure of funds from the Certificates <br />of Obligation 2000 as follows: <br /> <br />Jobs Completed: 6th SW & Sherman $6,869.00; 3000 Block of Lamar <br />Avenue, $9,843.00; 32nd SW & Kaufman, $4970.00; 500 Block Parr, <br />$1,250.00; 340,350 & 420 34th N. E., $3,950.00; and 1000 Block 20thNE <br /> <br /> <br />
