cnMErrr <br />The cement shall be type I of a Standard Brand of Portland Cement, and <br />shall conform to requirements of ASTM Designation C-150. <br />Any cement which has become partially set or which contai.ns hard lumps <br />or cakes, shall not be used. <br />FORMS <br />The Side Forms shall be wood or metal, of approved Cross-section, and <br />of a height not less than the proposed edge thickness of the concrete <br />section and a minimum of ten (10) feet in length. Forms shall be of <br />ample strength and shall be properly braced to withstand the loads <br />imposed there upon without springing or settlement. The Forms shall <br />be free from warps, bends or kinks and shall show no variation from <br />the true plane for face or top. Forms shall remain in place until <br />the concrete has taken its final set. <br />EXPANSION JOINT MATERIALS <br />Boards for expansion joint filler shall be of the size, shape and type <br />indicated on Plans, and shall be bituminous coated fiberboard, or of <br />Redwood, or Cypress. They shall be sound and shall be free from warps, <br />knots, sapwood, checks and splits. <br />STEEL REINFORCZNG BARS <br />Steel reinforcing bars shall be open hearth new deformed billet steel <br />of structural, intermediate or hard grade, ASTM Designation A-15 or <br />later revision. <br />All reinforcing shall be clean, free from rust in the form of loose or <br />objectionable scale and of the type, size and dimensions shown on the <br />Plans. Reinforcing bars shall be securely wired together at all <br />intersections and splices, and installed in their required position as <br />shown on the typical slab detail. <br />PLACING CONCRETE <br />Unless otherwise provided for on the Plans, the full width of the finished <br />concrete surface shall be constructed monolithically. The concrete shall <br />be rapidly deposited on the subgrade in successive batches and shall be <br />distributed to the required depth and for the entire width of the paved <br />area by shoveling or other approved methods. The placing operation shall <br />be continuous. Traverse or construction joints will not be permitted. <br />Special care shall be taken in placing and spading the concrete against <br />the Forms and at all joints and assemblies so as to prevent honeycombiny. <br />No concrete shall be placed when the air temperature is less than thirty- <br />six (36) degrees farenheit, also no concrete shall be placed on a frozen <br />subgrade. <br />sp- z <br />
