G. JOINT TREATMENT: <br />I-There joints are more than 1/2 inch in depth, backup <br />material may be used to control the depth of joint, and enable <br />the sealant to be installed under pressure. <br />Al1 joints shall be primed, if necessary, with a thin coating <br />of primer applied with a small brush. <br />1. Back-up Material shall be polyethylene foam rod stock, ar <br />as otherwise recommended by the caulking manufacturer. Rope <br />shall be 1/8" larger in diameter than the space to be filled <br />and must be free from oils, solvent, ar bituminous material. <br />H. APPLICATION OF CAULKING MATERIAL: <br />After joints have been cleaned, and back-up material installed <br />where needed, the joints shall be filled with caulking materials, <br />using a hand caulY.ing gun, or a pressure gun. <br />Toole the joint surface to compress the compound into the <br />joint, thereby assuring complete contact with the surface to be <br />sealed. Tooling without the aid of a slicking agent is preferred. <br />However, should conditions require a slicking agent, the use of <br />clean water and Tolune ar Xylene will be permitted. <br />Caulking shall not be applied when the tertperature is less than <br />40° F. <br />TS-5 <br />
