SOIL STABILIZATION <br />A. SCOPE: <br />Furnish and install all labor, materials, and equipment <br />necessary to complete the lime stabilization application <br />as described herei.n. <br />Stabilize the soil around the entire perimeter ot the <br />main building, stabilization shall begin at the exterior <br />foundation wall and extend away from the building a minimum <br />of 6 feet. The depth of stabilization shall be a minimum of <br />10 feet below existing ground elevation. <br />B. MATERIALS: <br />1. Shall be Hydrate Lime ASTM C-207. <br />2. Industrial detergent shall be added to the lime at the <br />rate of 1/2 pint per sack of lime ta serve as a surfactant <br />agent. <br />C. APFLICATION: <br />1. Proportion the lime slurry within the range of 2.5 to <br />3.0 pounds of hydrated lime per gallon of water. Check the <br />specific gravity of the slurry with Ertco Hydrometer No. 2545 <br />at both the mixer tanks and injection pipes. The lime sZurry <br />shall be continuously agitated to insure uniformity of mixture. <br />2. Injection pipe (s) shall penetrate the soil at approxi- <br />mately two foot intervals to a depth of ten feet below existing <br />ground elevation. These holes shall be located beginning two <br />feet away from the foundation walls and extending out six feet <br />from the foundation walls around the entire perimeter of the <br />building. Inject material to refusal at each interval. The <br />lawer portion of the injection pipe shall consist of a hole <br />pattern that will uniformly disperse the lime slurry throughout <br />the entire depth. Injection pressures should be adjusted to <br />inject the greatest quantity of slurry possible within a range <br />of 50 to 200 P.S.I. pump pressure. <br />3. Scarify the free surface lime into the top four inches <br />to six inches of soil and Zightly recompact upon completion of <br />the pressure injection. <br />4. The Contractor shall locate all underground utility and <br />service lines before drilling holes and take precautions so <br />that no damage will occur to them. <br />TS-8 <br />
