Minutes <br />Paris Municipal Band Commission <br /> <br />A special meeting of the members of the Paris Municipal Band Commission was held on <br />Friday, August 17, 2001 at 4:00 p.m. in the boardroom of the Lamar County Chamber of <br />Commerce. <br /> <br />PRESENT <br /> <br />Edmond Castleberry <br />Albert Nichol <br /> <br />Dr. James Brunette <br />Randy Bunch <br /> <br />ABSENT <br /> <br />Also Present <br /> <br />Linda Suarez <br /> <br />Tom Nuegent, Assistant Band Director <br /> <br />Chairman Edmond Castleberry called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. <br /> <br />Mr. Nuegent gave a report on the 2001 Municipal Band season and list several concerns <br />he had with future season. Among these were: <br /> 1. Instruments. The municipal band borrows instruments from Paris High School. <br /> During June of each year most high school band directors send <br /> the large instruments such as tubas, baritones, French horns, etc <br /> to be repaired before the next school year. These instruments <br /> are not always available for the municipal band to use. <br /> <br />2. Chairs. <br /> <br />The chairs used during the 2001 season were borrowed from <br />Justiss Elementary School. During the course of the 2001 season <br />7 chairs have been reported missing. <br />Recommendation: <br />The City of Paris needs to replace these chairs and consider <br />purchasing approximately 70-75 chairs for future seasons. <br /> <br />3. Stands. <br /> <br />Folding stands would reduce transportation requirements and <br />would be easily stored. <br />Recommendation: <br />The City of Paris needs to consider purchasing approximately 50 <br />folding stands. <br /> <br />4. Concert Season. Needs to be revised due to temperature, availability of <br /> qualified high school students who participate in the band, <br /> start of high school band practices, and conflicts with vacation <br /> schedule of both student and adult participants. <br /> Recommendation: <br /> Year round schedule to include: <br /> 4 concerts during June and July <br /> 1 concert during November <br /> 1 concert during January of February <br /> <br /> <br />
