Suzy Harper and Barbara <br />Wilson suggested the entry for the Historic Coloring Book for the <br />category of "Best Downtown Marketing Program." Barbara <br />provided a description of the project and it was accepted by the <br />Board. Maria Pope offered to contact several photographers for <br />the photographs required and Mary Ann Chalaire and Patsy <br />Davis offered to proof the narratives. A deadline was set for <br />September 7 for the first drafts. <br /> <br />Discussion of potential grants for side walks, historic structure <br />repair and historic signage. <br /> <br />Maria Pope reported on several grants available for each project <br />and recommended we request applications for consideration. <br /> <br />Discussion of proposed "Festival of Pumpkins" for a children's <br />program October 27th 2001. <br /> <br />Maria Pope reported that several merchants have made requests <br />for a fall event downtown. The Board agreed to make it a local <br />festival to promote a safe event putting the focus on the season <br />rather than Halloween. Lisa Spann, David House and Patsy <br />Davis confirmed the need to promote it as an event not <br />promoting ghosts and other aspects of the dark side of <br />Halloween. Robyn Zimmerman suggested that we go easy this <br />first time around due to the short time frame and possibly build <br />it up each year. The Board agreed that the time frame is short <br />and a planning meeting will be arranged for the week of August <br />20th, 2001. <br /> <br />Discussion of the Blue Grass Festival. <br /> <br />A letter requesting funds for sponsorship was submitted to the <br />Main Street Program.
