The Contractor shall obtain the Architect's and the Engineer's inspection and <br /> approval before placing any structural concrete, giving at least 36 hours notice before <br /> pours are scheduled. Obtain the Architect's approval before pouring non-structural <br /> concrete. <br /> <br /> 6. The Contractor shall construct formwork to adequately support pressure from the <br /> wet concrete. Reinforcing shall be installed to the Engineer's satisfaction before <br /> placing concrete. <br /> <br /> 7. Thoroughly clean all form surfaces in contact with concrete and coat with approved <br /> form coating. Oiled forms shall not be used for exposed concrete surfaces which <br /> are later to be plastered or robbed. <br /> <br /> 8. Leave all formwork in place for a time consistent with the recommendations of the <br /> American Concrete Institute. In general, the perimeter vertical beam forms may be <br /> removed within 2448 hours after concrete is placed. Should inconsistencies and/or <br /> irregularities in the lines, levels or plumb of the concrete occur, the Contractor shall <br /> make such corrections as the Engineer directs, without extra cost to the Owner. <br /> <br /> B. Reinforcing Steel: <br /> <br /> 1. Reinforcing bars. <br /> <br /> a. Reinforcement shall be placed in the exact locations shown on the plans. It <br /> shall in general, be spaced and supported in the forms with bar supports as <br /> specified by the CRSI in its Code of Standard Practice or the ACI's <br /> Detailing Manual, spacexl to conformity with such codes, and shall be wired <br /> together at intersections so that it will be securely and accurately held in <br /> place during the placing of concrete. The fa'st bar in slab steel shall be at 2 <br /> inches from outside form, unless otherwise shown. <br /> <br /> b. Suitable spacers, chairs and/or blocks shall be provided to hold the <br /> reinforcing steel in place during the placing of concrete. Bars shall be <br /> protected from mst and damage. Comer bars shall be used top and bottom <br /> at all outside comers and as indicated on the plans. Comer bars to be equal <br /> in size to larger of intersecting bars, unless otherwise shown. Bars shall be <br /> spliced 30 diameters or a minimum of 20 inches. <br /> <br /> c. Oily or greasy bars shall not be used, nor shall any bar which for any reason <br /> may not properly bond with the concrete. <br /> <br /> d. Bars shall be placed to provide 2 inches cover over the outside layers of <br /> bars, except that 3 inches shall be provided for bottom bars in earth. Cover <br /> shall be I-1/2 inches over bars placed in interior slabs. <br /> <br /> 2. Wire mesh. Wire mesh if called for shall be placed flat in the forms without kinks, <br /> shall be lapped six inches on each edge, and shall be tied at the laps at intervals not <br /> to exceed two feet. Wire mesh shall be positioned in the slab with suitable blocks or <br /> spacers and its position in the slab shall be carefully checked as concrete placing <br /> progresses.
