No concrete shall be placed or finished when the temperature is 40° F. and falling, <br /> without the permission of the Engineer. Concrete, after placement, shall be protected <br /> from freezing for a period of four curing days after it has been placed. Curing days <br /> shall mean days during which the temperature is above 40° for a period of twelve <br /> hours. In case of drops in temperature below 32° F. the Contractor shall use cove~s, <br /> flares, heaters and/or other devices and shall maintain such protection on a twenty- <br /> four hour basis until the expiration of four curing days. Concrete which is allowed <br /> to freeze and become damaged as indicat~l by discoloration, disruption or failure to <br /> develop its proper strength shall be removed and replaced by this Contractor at his <br /> expense. Comply with ACI 305 & 306. <br /> <br /> E. Finish of Slabs: <br /> <br /> 1. The concrete shall be raked into place and thoroughly compacted by a vibrator and <br /> with a grill tamp. The surface shall be slruck off at the floor level by means of <br /> previously set screeds. <br /> <br /> 2. All expansion joints shall be well and accurately tooled to match appearance of existing <br /> historic sidewalk joints. The expansion joint material shall be cut back a minimum <br /> of 1/2" below concrete surface. <br /> <br /> 3.
