Minutes <br />Traffic Commission <br />City of Paris <br />The Traffic Commission met on Tuesday, August 07, 2012 at 5:15 P.M. in the <br />Municipal Courtroom with the following members present: <br />1. Jean Schweers <br />2. Barry Shiver <br />3. Susan Hamby <br />4. Joe McCarthy <br />5. Jon McFadden <br />6. Kenneth Millsap <br />7. Ken Kohls <br />The city staff was represented by Asst. Chief Randy Tuttle. <br />City Councilman Aaron Jenkins was present as Council Liaison <br />Mr. McFadden called the meeting to order at 5:15pm. A quorum was established <br />with all members present. Mr. McFadden then moved the meeting to the Police <br />Department EOC/Training Room. <br />Mr. McFadden moved to item #2 to approve minutes of July 03, 2012 meeting. <br />Mr. Kohls made a motion to approve minutes and was second by Mr. McCarthy. <br />Motion carried 7-0. <br />Mr. McFadden then moved to item #3 regarding the discussion and possible <br />action regarding the removal of the crossover in 5000 block SE Loop 286. This <br />item had been tabled at July 03, 2012 meeting and a motion was made by Mr. <br />McCarthy to remove this item from table for discussion. Mr. Shiver second the <br />motion and it carried 7-0. Mr. Tuttle informed members that two letters had been <br />sent to TXDOT from Cypress Home Health 5020 SE Loop 286 and James Hodge <br />Motors 5100 SE Loop 286 requesting the crossover in 5000 block SE Loop 286 <br />be closed due to continued safety issues. Mr. Tuttle informed members there had <br />been 30 accidents in the 5000 block SE Loop 286 from June 21, 2009 to June <br />21, 2012. Of those accidents 13 involved the crossover in question. TXDOT Area <br />Engineer Richard Harper was present and discussed issues of closing the <br />crossover. Mr. Harper told members that the city would need to request the <br />crossover be closed. TXDOT would then study what needed to be done to <br />complete the closing of this crossover. After lengthy discussion Mr. Kohls made a <br />motion to request the City Council consider a resolution closing the crossover in <br />5000 block SE Loop 286 after a public hearing to hear input from the public.
