Chief Randy Tuttle <br />Agenda Item No.: <br />10. <br />Move to approve a Resolution approving and authorizing a request by the Traffic Commission from the <br />Texas Department of Transportation to close the existing crossover in the 5000 block of south East Loop <br />286. <br />POLICY ISSUE�S�: <br />Public Safety <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The City of Paris Traffic Commission was forwarded two written request from James Hodge Motors and <br />Cypress Home Health to close the crossover in 5000 block SE Loop 286 due to safety concerns. <br />On August 0�, 2012 the Traffic Commission met in regular monthly meeting to consider this request. <br />The Traffic Commission was informed that there had been 30 accidents in the 5000 block SE Loop 286 <br />from June 21, 2009 to June 21, 2012 of which 13 involved the crossover in question. TXDOT Area <br />Engineer Richard Harper informed the Commission that the city would need to request TXDOT close <br />this crossover before TXDOT took any action. After a lengthy discussion the Traffic Commission voted <br />5-1 to forward a recommendation to City Council requesting Texas Department of Transportation <br />(TXDOT) close the crossover in 5000 block SE Loop 286. <br />Two residents of the Morningside sub-division were present at the meeting and expressed their concern <br />about closing this crossover. They are concerned about the additional traffic that would use the Dawn <br />Drive crossover located south of the crossover in question.
