DRAF? <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />TEXAS, APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING A REQUEST BY TAE <br />TRAFFIC COMMISSION FROM THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF <br />TRANSPORTATION TO CLOSE THE EXISTING CROSSOVER IN THE <br />5000 BLOCK OF SOUTH EAST LOOP 286 DUE TO SAFETY <br />CONCERNS BY TWO BUSINESSES; MAHING OTHER FINDINGS AND <br />PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, in a regular meeting on August 7, 2012, the Traffic Commission discussed <br />that two letters had been received by TxDot from Cypress Home Health and James Hodge <br />Motors requesting the crossover in the 5000 block SE Loop 286 be closed due to continued <br />safety issues; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Tuttle informed members there had been 30 accidents in the 5000 <br />block SE Loop 286 from June 21, 2009 to June 21, 2012 and of those accidents 13 involved the <br />crossover; and <br />WHEREAS, Richard Harper, TxDOT Area Engineer told commission members that the <br />City would need to request the crossover be closed, TxDOT would then study what needed to be <br />done. The Traffic Commission voted 5— 1 to recommend closure of the crossover to the City <br />Council; and <br />WHEREAS, the Traffic Commission recommends the City Council to consider closing <br />the crossover in the 5000 block of SE Loop 286; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all <br />things approved. <br />Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Paris concurs with the recommendations <br />of the Traffic Commission of the City of Paris and, and hereby instructs the Paris City Manager <br />to formally request that TxDOT close the existing crossover at the 5000 block SE Loop 286 due <br />to continued safety issues. <br />Section 3. That this resolution shall be effective from and after its date of passage. <br />PASSED AND APPROVED this 8t1i day of October, 2012. <br />-- 51 <br />
