deterioration of the neighborhood. <br />Skipper Steely, 801 Sherman Street, property owner, not speaking in favor of or <br />in opposition o£ Mr. Steely stated his home is on the national register and was <br />not aware you could request standalone designation. Mr. Steely issued concerns <br />over the conditions of property in this area; several homes are in dilapidated states <br />and need to be demolished. <br />Public hearing was closed. <br />Paul Denney stated that the only property affected by this petition will be Mr. <br />Shannon's, and unless you do something on your property to increase taxes this <br />will not cause the taxes to go up. Mr. Denney further instructed Mr. Shannon on <br />what will be required if his petition is approved; making sure Mr. Shannon <br />understands the guidelines and restrictions this approval will place on the <br />property. Mr. Shannon stated he did understand the process for getting approval <br />and was ok with that. <br />Motion was made by Ben Vaughan, seconded by Britin Bostick to approve the <br />petition. Commissioners discussed what will be protected on the lot. Ben <br />Vaughan asked if the barn would be protected or is it the house only. Jeanna <br />Scott stated that the historic district overlay will be applied to the lots metes and <br />bounds, however, to qualify as contributing the structure must be 50 years old. <br />Douglas Cox asked if the property owners plan on restoring the property back to <br />its original state. Mr. Shannon stated no, but he will be painting the structure and <br />doing some work to the front porch. Ben Vaughan expressed concerns over the <br />barn and the property boundaries and how that could affect the commission. <br />Britin Bostick stated that exhibit "A" shows the legal boundaries of the property <br />and until legal evidence is shown that indicates there is a conflict; we don't have <br />anything else to go by. Motion carried 4-0, with Ben Vaughan abstaining from <br />the vote. <br />4. Consideration of and action on adding the Sherman Williams color ° Useful Gray" <br />(7057) to the approved historic district color palette. <br />Ben Vaughan presented the request to the commission. Motion was made by Britin <br />Bostick, seconded by Lauri Redus to approve the addition of the color "Useful Gray" to <br />the approved color palette for the historic district.
