2010.01 <br />The work to be perfo ed under this section of the specifications shall consist of furnishing <br />and installing polyvinyl chloride pipe. <br />I <br />2010.02 MATERIALS <br />Polyvinyl chloride pip , unless otherwise specifically shown on the plans, or approved in <br />writing, shall be Class 150 psi with a imension ratio of 18 (DR 18) for sizes 10-inches and greater and shall <br />be C1ass 200 psi with a d'unension ra io of 14 (DR 14) for sizes 8-inches and smaller. PVC pipe shall be <br />extruded polyvinyl chloride pipe of bber gasket type, and shall be furnished in 20-foot nominal laying <br />lengths. All such pipe shall beaz a m k denoting approval by the Underwriter's Laboratories of Chicago, <br />Illinois, so that it will be acceptable t the Texas State Fire Insurance Commission for use in fire protection <br />lines without penalty. Pipe shall be nianufactured in accordance with American Water Works Association <br />Specification C900-89, or latest ed tions thereof. Pipe larger than 12-inch may be manufactured in <br />accordance with AWWA C905-88 w th a dimension ratio of 18 (DR 18), which is pressure rated at 235 psi. <br />All joints shall be of the type which rovides a recession in the bell for the employment of a single rubber <br />gasket to be placed before the inserti n of the succeeding spigot. Each size of polyvinyl cliloride pipe shall <br />have the same outside diameter as th conesponding size of cast iron pipe. <br />2010.03 LAYING POLYVI YL CHLUKiuh rirh <br />Unless otherwise spec ied on the plans, or shown on the profiles, polyvinyl chloride pipe shall <br />v <br />be installed to clear all utility lines a d shall have the following minimum cover below the lowest propert <br />line grade of the street: <br />i and 10-inch pipe 5.0' cover <br />pipe and smaller 4.0' cover <br />The specified embed ent shall be accurately shaped and trimmed to receive the pipe barrel <br />and each pipe section, when in place shall have a uniform bearing on the subgrade for the full length of the <br />pipe bazrel. Pipe shall not be laid nless the subgrade is free of water and in a satisfactory condition. <br />Adjustments of [he pipe to line and ade shall be made by scraping away or filling in with granular material, <br />and not by wedging or blocking up e bell. <br />The interior of the pi e shall be clean and joint surfaces shall be clean and dry when [he pipe <br />is lowered into the trench. Each pi , fitting and valve shall be ]owered into the trench cazefully and laid true <br />to line and grade. <br />Polyvinyl chloride pipe shall be installed as shown on the plans with ductile iron fittings. <br />Fittings shall be as specified in Standard Specification Item 2012 - Ductile Iron Water Pipe Fittings. <br />Item 2010-1 <br />
