The Public Works <br />Department completed the year 2000 street program on November 3rd, which <br />included hotmix overlay of 10.5 miles, chip sealing of 12 miles of street, <br />rehabilitation of seven miles of streets, and upgrading of 2 miles of gravel <br />streets. <br />City Manager Malone said the city will be moving forward with the engineering <br />on the project for sewage at the Cope Addition. He said there is right-of-way <br />and engineering done for the extension of Hearne Street, which is an <br />Economic Development Corporation Project. <br />City Manager Malone reported that the city conducted testing on the soil at the <br />back of the parking lot where the current animal shelter is located The city <br />plans to build a new facility next to the old animal shelter, and they found that <br />there was a lot of subsurface water that crosses from the north on Clement <br />and comes under the proposed building location. City Manager Malone said <br />this is the site of an old dump and the ground is also filled with glass and <br />cans. He said they were trying to locate other property that would be more <br />suitable. City Manager Malone said they had looked at property on west <br />Center street, but the owner did not want to part with the land. He noted that <br />they have other sites to look at. He said they were trying to find a site that is <br />not going to be detrimental to a neighborhood or too close to housing and at <br />the same time be accessible to the public. <br />City Manager Malone said in regard to the council chambers, he has had <br />discussion with an architect about what the expectations are; however, he has <br />been tied up with the animal shelter project, but now is able to work on the <br />council chambers and hoped to move forward on that and get something <br />going on it in the spring. City Manager Malone advised the City Council that <br />the city is presently storing a lot of equipment in the old fire station and it will <br />have to be moved to another location. <br />There being no further business, a motion was made by Councilman Carter, <br />seconded by Councilman McCarthy, to adjourn the meeting. The motion <br />carried, 7 ayes, 0 nays. The meeting was adjourned. <br />
