City Council Meeting
November 9, 2000
Page 4
club has had a large section of the Lake Crook property under lease for some
years, and they have spent a lot of time and effort maintaining the property.
Mr. Pearson said that to the Archers for Christ Archery Club, the lake area is
a place right out of Maberry RFD - it is very pristine and classic. Mr. Pearson
said they were very open to multi-use of the property, but they are concerned
that if it is developed, since this is a secondary source for the City of Paris,
residents use all types of chemicals on their yards, and he was concerned
that it would encroach on the buffer zone. He felt the city should consider
these issues. Mr. Pearson said they recognize there is a significant economic
potential for the lake property such as the drag boat races. Mr. Pearson told
the City Council that the Archer's forChristwill be hosting a NAAF Association
Field Shoot in the year 2004 with potential for 400 to 500 shooters attending.
Nancy Salzman, Stillhouse Road, appeared before the City Council stating that
you cannot place a price as to what the lake property offers. Ms. Salzman
said she was interested in seeing nature trails and bike trails around the lake.
Ms. Salzman pointed out that the Audubon Christmas Bird House makes a
major stop every year to birdwatch at the lake as the habitat there is fantastic
for bird life, especially on the back side. Ms. Salzman said it would be a great
loss to see it removed from its natural state. She felt there is a lack of
recreational areas in this area.
Charline Mulligan, 226 West Washington Street, came forward telling the City
Council that Ms. Salzman expressed the same feelings that she has regarding
Lake Crook. She wanted to keep the lake areas rustic, rural, and keep it for the
citizens of Paris. Ms. Mulligan pointed out that there is a need for things for
the young people to do and this would be a great place for the teenagers.
Mark Rothfuss, 2810 Willow Bend, came forward presenting the City Council
with a copy of a master plan for the Archers for Christ. Mr. Rothfuss said they
have had a lease for land at Lake Crook about 13 years. Mr. Rothfuss stated
they were against any commercial development of the land at Lake Crook. He
submitted an advertisement that was placed in the Paris News thatwould help
their club support maintaining the undevelopment of Lake Crook area in its
natural state. There were 15 advertisements returned supporting maintaining
the undevelopment of Lake Crook area in a natural state, and he also
presented a petition containing 104signatures thatwas circulated attheirclub
