Mr.
Bell stated he was against the property being developed for housing and
asked that the city leave them alone.
Richard Swint, 2510 Stillhouse, came forward stating that he is not a resident
of the City of Paris, but he is a taxpayer. Dr. Swint said there is very poor
realization about the potential of the Lake Crook property. Dr. Swint said it
was very difficult to involve the community in developing an asset such as this
through council meetings. Dr. Swint said he would hope that the City Council
would send people to each civic club, which would entail some description of
the facilities that are located on the lake property and show photographs of
what has been developed in the past and involve as a board of a base group
of people to think about the potential of this lake. Dr. Swint pointed out that
this process was followed in developing the Love Civic Centerwith a result of
the City of Paris having a fine building that can be utilized by the citizens. Dr.
Swint stated that parks and recreation is probably one of the top priority items
for planning the quality of life for the community. He said this particular area
is close to the city and it would be readily and easily developed for
recreational purposes instead of real estate. Mr. Swint encouraged the City
Council to enlist the interest of a very broad base of people through all of the
civic clubs.
Joe Bob Margraves, Route 6, came forward stating that his interest is the
youth of this community. Mr. Margraves said the City of Paris needs a place
for the youth of this community to play ball. He said we need a place to gather
and have fun, whether it is Lake Crook or somewhere else, he just wants a
place for the kids to play , be safe, have a good time and develop into good
adults.
Councilman Carter departed the council meeting at 6:45 P. M.
Richard Sharrock, Route 6, Box 6070, appeared before the City Council
advising that he is also concerned with the youth programs that we have in
Paris, Texas. Mr. Sharrock stated that there are several programs and with
adequate facilities, they could be broadened and recreation could be a big
part of that. Mr. Sharrock said he travels playing softball and they see parks
that are in a nice environment with good drainage. He felt that another site in
Paris Texas would be a benefit to the youth and to the community. Mr.
