City Council Meeting
November 9, 2000
Page 8
Sharrock pointed out that there are several places to go in Paris. Because
facilities are scattered in different areas of the city and there is not one place
for families to go and participate in all types of sporting activities, that means
they have to run all over the city if they have more than one child. Mr.
Sharrock said he would like to see a place where this could happen.
Mark McNeal, Route 1, Box 304, Sumner, Texas, appeared stating that for the
past several years he has been involved in children's sports in this area, and
like Mr. Margraves, he feels that where it is at does not matter, but they do
have single parents running kids from one side of Paris to the other, which
very hard on the parents. Mr. McNeal said this community should be able to
get together and help out the kids by building some type of sports complex.
Mr. McNeal told the City Council that Archer's for Christ has done a good job
cleaning their area up and so has the Maxey Rifle Club.
Carl Melton, 2230 East Cherry Street, appeared before the City Council stating
that he is one of the people that helped to start the clean up of Lake Crook a
few years ago. Mr. Melton said they were the ones that helped build the pier
and in the summer time, you will see people out there fishing. Mr. Melton said
he supports any organization and he feels that there should be something for
the kids to do. Mr. Melton said that is what this Council needs to look forward
to instead of trying to make a dollar on property at Lake Crook.
Murray Jackson, 500 Pecan Street, Honey Grove, Texas, was present telling
the City Council that part of the Maxey Rifle Club has a juniors program. He
said they have several facilities for them to shoot in for this program. Mr.
Jackson said the Skeet and Trap Club is always interested in having people
come out and they are always searching for new members. Mr. Jackson said
the Rifle Club is one of the best in the area and he would hate to see
something happen to it.
Leslie Dudley, 300 Mansfield Road, came forward telling the City Council that
she was the past president of the Maxey Rifle Club. Ms. Dudley stated that the
Archer's for Christ have been leasing a portion the Lake Crook property for
many years, and this year they only received a one year lease where they have
been granted a five year lease in the past. Ms. Dudley advised the City Council
that their lease is coming up for renewal in two years and wanted to know
what is going to happen at that time, and questioned why the Archer's for
