City Council Meeting
November 9, 2000
Page 10
that we are talking about long term consequences for the City of Paris. She
again stressed that one public hearing was not enough. Ms. Lewis urged the
City Council to hold another public hearing on this subject.
Mark Rothfuss, 2810 Willow Bend, also came forward again stating that he did
notwant anyone in the room to misconstrue that the Archer's for Christ, or any
other group that is present want to exclude other citizens of Paris to the use
of that land. Mr. Rothfuss stated that they encourage people to come out, and
they wanted them to develop bike trails and have it available for everyone. He
said what they are asking for is that the natural state of that area be
undisturbed. Mr. Rothfuss pointed out that everyone in the room is defensive
about commercial development because that is the rumor, and further pointed
out that everyone in this room does not have resources that a developer has
at his disposal, including the Realtors in this town who can put them away in
a heartbeat by buying this land, and that is why you see the attitudes that are
coming forth tonight. He said there is a lot of money at stake. The developers
have the money where their groups do not, and that is why he is present
representing this group. The point is, they want the Lake Crook property left
alone. He stated that if the city wants to develop it for the children, they
encourage and support that, and they are not trying to make themselves look
like a special interest group.
Earl Bell, 180 Deer Valley, appeared before the City Council again asking
where are the other citizens, and wanted to know why they were not present
tonight. He said if they were really interested in developing the lake property,
where are they?
No one else appeared and the public hearing was declared closed.
Terry Brannon with the C. T. Brannon Corporation came forward again stating
that when he came to Paris to be interviewed for this project with the City
Manager, City Attorney, and the Public Works Director, they went over the
project including the history of Lake Crook and the area. He stated that he
wanted to assure those in the audience that he was not given any directions
from any member of the city staff in any way. He said he was given factual
information of the history of the lake. He was told that there were people in
town that were interested in preservation of the lake as it is, and he was told
that there were people in town that were interested in development of the lake,
