A briefing and planning session was held at the <br />Police Department among the Red Cross Officials and a shelter was <br />opened atthe LamarAvenue Church of Christ. Therewere additional plans <br />to open other shelters if needed. <br />City Manager Malone reported thatthe Police Departmentworked 57 hours <br />of overtime, EMS worked 232 hours of overtime, and the Fire Department <br />worked 246 hours of overtime. There were no reports of damage to any <br />city buildings that were occupied by these services or any Fire or EMS <br />equipment. He said we did suffer $1,500.00 in damage from a fallen tree <br />limb to a patrol car, and one CID car was also damaged. <br />City Manager Malone reported that the EMS responded to 265 ambulance <br />requests from December 25t" through January 3rd. Average calls per day <br />increased by 50% during this time from 19.8 calls per day to 26.5 calls per <br />day. He said the city did place the new ambulance and crew in service on <br />the 23rd of December, so during most of this time the city had four <br />ambulances and many times there were five ambulances responding to <br />calls. The City Manager pointed out that the response time was impacted <br />due to the ice and downed tree limbs. They worked 2,008 man hours <br />during this time frame. <br />City Manager Malone said the Fire Department during the time period of <br />December 25t" through December 31St° responded to 142 calls. There were <br />nine structure fires, three vehicle fires, three major accidents, three <br />medical assists, 20 miscellaneous calls, and 104 calls that were due to <br />downed power lines and tree limbs. The total overtime for the Fire <br />Department was 246 hours. City Manager Malone said he was present on <br />the evening of December 26t" when a fire call came in about 10:10 P. M., a <br />structure fire at 120 South Main Street. He pointed out photographs that <br />are available on the board for the City Council to take a look at. The fire <br />units arrived approximately four minutes after the call came in and found <br />heavy smoke and flames coming from the front and rear of the second <br />floor of the Paris Investment Company. He said this fire was brought <br />under control approximately five hours later. There was a total of thirty <br />firefighters and seven pieces of fire equipment involved. Some fire units <br />remained on the scene until 6:00 P. M. on December 27t". The building was <br />a total loss, but the firefighters were able to recover file storage cabinets <br />
